This is a Test; This is Only a Test...

This past week has been a trying week for Avery and me. I don't know if it's a combination of things, or if she's just testing her boundaries. She's gotten so independent, but along with that comes some frustration. Last week included lots of spankings, lots of crying, lots of whining, lots of hugging, and lots of rocking.

Kenny decided during one of her 'fits' after a spanking that he would take a picture. It really is a sad sight, and for the most part she is learning what she can and can not do.

I'm just glad she's a fast learner because it's sad giving her spanking after spanking when she continues to do the same thing over and over.

Oh, and her most recent thing she has learned is the word, "no." So, now when she knows she's doing something she's not supposed to be doing, she looks at us with the testing look, and says, "no, no!"

What's the funniest story you've heard about kids testing their boundaries?

Oh, I so feel your pain!!!

The picture is cute (for some reason I like to capture the "real" pictures as well as the "cute/posed" ones).

My two LOVE to test the boundaries. I constantly feel like I am being tag teamed and I am so out-numbered. I have found that I have to pick and choose my battles and that I always have to remain constant. I thought that Abby Kate was done testing me (ha ha), but she has once again started it. It is so frustrating and really draining.

Now mine like to yell "No No" at each other if they see the other one doing something that they know is a no-no. I just have to laugh - they have heard me say it a million times.

Oh well...

I think it's pretty funny that y'all took a picture of her crying. :-)

I love the picture. I was the world's worst at pushing the limits as a kid. My parents or teachers would tell me not to do something and I'd deliberately do it just to spite them. One time we had this total eclipse or something. We were told we couldn't look directly at the sun or else it would really mess up your eyes. We had to look through this shoe box with a hole punched through it. (I still haven't figured out how that protects your eyes, but oh well...). Anyway, as soon as the teacher told us not to look at the sun with the naked eye, I instantly started staring at it to see what would happen. Probably the reason I wear glasses now....

My friend Caleb e-mailed this one about his daughter's "boundary testing"...They always cook their dinner meals on the weekends, and then just re-heat whatever they are going to eat that night. Their daughter developed the habit of going into the fridge and helping herself to whatever she could reach, even though they constantly punished her for doing so. The remedy? They placed a dish of ground up liver and cabbage on the bottom shelf. Little Shay stuck her hand in there, got a mouthful, and promptly threw up (it does seem a little mean). However, she never went searching for a forbidden snack again!

I used to swear that mine (including your husband!) layed in bed at night and decided whose 'day' it was to test me tomorrow! Love ya, MamaKat
