Throw-Down In The Aisles of Wal-Mart

Today the kids and I ventured out to run a few errands. First stop Wal-Mart. I know people hold strong feelings toward whether or not they like that store. Personally, I don't have a problem with the store itself, other than the fact that they don't have some things in stock that I need/want (but that's a whole other post in itself).

Back to the story at hand. We had been there for probably an hour. We weren't there on a mission, just a leisurely outing to pick up a few items, plus look at the kid toys per Avery's request.

Of course I'm biased and think my children are beautiful, but I was backed with other comments throughout our shopping experience. We enjoyed our normal shares of "how cute they are!" and "what a basketful of joy you have there!" followed with "such sweet siblings!"

On the way to the check out lines something cute caught my eye, so I veered to take a closer look. That's when it happened.

A woman started walking toward us, staring daggers right at Braden. I was a bit confused, but prepared myself to say 'thank you' to her assumed oncoming, "what a cutie" remark.
Then a grouchy mumble ensued as she continued past us, now making direct eye contact with me.

My gracious smile disappeared as her words sunk in: "that child's hair is entirely too long for him to be a boy!"

My mouth dropped open, and I was speechless. Who. Is. She. That she thinks she has the right to tell me how my son's hair should be? As I gathered my thoughts, I stared after her wondering if I should chase her down and inform her of all of her unfortunate style choices she had made that day.

That would make me just like her, so I didn't.

Then I decided that she was probably just jealous that Braden's blonde hair is his true color, and she will never get such natural looking curly locks.

But the mother in me still wanted to take her out back and show her a thing or two.....

'Wondering if I should inform her of all her bad style choices that day...'

So. Funny. :)

I agree, the boxing gloves come out when other people start picking at our babies (us). I remember a woman once scolding me at Sam's Club because I had AK out in the buggy in the cold, completely and totally layered and covered with a coat and hat. You could hardly even see her, but this woman told me how awful it was of me to have my child out. Braden's hair is super cute! People can just be so mean sometimes.

Really?! His hair's not even that long. I wonder what she'd say if she saw Jack. In the words of Bon Qui Qui, "Rude!"

ummmm I would have been stabbed if she'd seen me with Aiden then...out of sheer anger that he looks like such a girl...and left to bleed in the middle of the aisle. people like that are socially retarded. only word for it.

That is just crazy, his hair looks adorable. She obviously had some chip on her shoulder and needed a reason to be rude. Brandon complains that I keep Timothy's hair too long, but really, does every little boy have to have a buzz cut? I don't think so!

When I read this it made me mad! Haha! I mean, who does that? Weirdos!

One time I had my dog Pete in the car with me and I stopped at Publix to get some sushi. I cracked the windows and I was in there for maybe five minutes. When I walked outside there was a woman trying to open my car doors! She had caused a spectacle. Pete was barking hysterically and people were staring. I was livid. She told me it was entirely too hot for him to be in the car. I said I only went in to get one thing of sushi (except I raised my voice and threw up my bag of sushi in the air for all to see and gave her a dirty look) and she stormed off. I was shaking after that incident. I was mad for days. It would be different if she'd been watching my car for 20 or 30 minutes and Pete was having a heat stroke, but she had obviously just parked. It still burns me up thinking about it.

Granted, it wasn't an attack on my child, but it was an attack on me at pet owner. People need to mind their own business!
