Suggestions....??

I am planning on participating in my first ever consignment sale...selling that is. I have participated in buying several different times!

What I was wanting was advice from those out there who have done this before...how should I price? I want things to sell, but I want to just give it away....Help!?

Hey Jamey! I've sold in consignment sales ever since my kids were little since I've never had the need to save for any future kids. :) I've always been told to price your stuff about 1/3 the price of what you bought it for. Sometimes I do a little less if it's not in really good shape or not name brand. My goal is to get rid of it, too, so sometimes I price lower just for that reason. At our sales, they always have an option where you can put on the tag if you want it to be discounted (25% off, 50% off, etc.) at the end of the sale. I always choose for mine to be discounted at the end because I want to get rid of it...unless it is a really large item that I think I could get my starting price for somewhere else...like on Craigslist. I usually take what I have left to Goodwill because I usually don't have much stuff left and I don't have room to save it for the next year...and don't want to hassle with tagging it again. Hope this helps. :)

I think that Anna said it very well. I price mine at 1/3 of the price too. We have a minimum price of $3, so I don't price anything lower than that. I also choose to discount my things, unless it is a big item, or one that I paid a pretty penny for. I chose not to have any of my items discounted the first time, and I did not do so well. People are more inclined to by it early if they think that it won't be there much longer. I think that you just have to know your prices and what people are willing to pay. If it is priced too close to the price of a brand new item, chances are it will not sell. You can make a lot of money consigning your clothes. Best of luck!

I am horrible at pricing stuff because I'm a cheapskate. :-) Good luck with the sale!!

I'm a cheapskate too, Laura. And the last (and first) time I did a consignment sale, I way overpriced everything. I said I'd never do it again because it took so much time to get everything together and tagged, and I didn't make over $50. But I am doing it again. So, my advice, which I'll be following this time around is: do your tags online if you can and just print them out and don't price anything too high unless you would pay that much for it at a consignment sale. And do the discount if you wanna get rid of it. Which sale are you doing?

I'm doing the My Kids' Attic one. I'm a cheapo too, so I probably will price everything low.

The only things I was able to part with were mainly things that my kids didn't wear the first time around. I kept packing the familiar things back away "just in case we have another!" How pitiful is that...too sentimental!

Good luck with the consignment sale! I live for those 2 times a year. Anna did say everything I would have. I'm more inclined to price it lower to just get rid of it. Always good to do the half off too. Good luck!
